Student Mural 2010

student mural design conceptb

The "old perk" upstairs Perkins Library will be host to a collaborative mural painting this fall. A group of Duke Students, sponsored by the University Libraries and the Vice Provost for the Arts, will be painting a mural on the wall across from the Gothic Reading Room.

"The Wall is about activism. It's about coming together and creating for the sake of experience. Bringing people together and making visible, the potential unique genius in us all, not the Straight A Rule Follower in us all. Comprised of rainbow colors different shaped frames for painting, to celebrate solidarity in diversity, the final mural will portray a variety of academically-relevant images painted by Duke students. We are excited to produce this project in a public space - any one who wants in can join. Every one's got something to say, and surely, a little time on their hands to step back and take part just a bit."  Bibi Tran, Chair, DUU Visual Arts Committee
