Closing the Gap: Professionals of Color in Advertising

Welcome

Cyan's Cover Photo

From Douglass Alligood, to Clarence Holte, to Carmen Baez, to Esther Lee, people of color have made their presence in the advertising industry. This exhibit seeks to highlight the experiences of minorities in advertising within the United States. Spanning from the 1940s to present day, this website uses materials from the Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising, and Marketing History in conjunction with secondary sources to document some of the obstacles, successes, and developments of these professionals.

This exhibit is part of the Hartman Center's Race and Ethnicity in Advertising website.
