The History of Aspirin

INTRODUCTION

It’s thought that Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, is responsible for why we know about white willow’s anti-inflammatory properties. But this is in fact a myth. In reality, Hippocrates didn't write about the bark of the tree, which would later be used to synthesize aspirin. Instead, he wrote that the smoke from burning willow leaves would "fumigate" the uterus to get rid of a miscarried pregnancy. Here we will cover the actual ancient evidence of willow tree’s medicinal use and how that eventually led to the creation of aspirin.
