Recent data is used to visualize the financial and socio-economic burdens experienced by both those who get a wanted abortion and those who are denied one. Data from the Guttmacher Institute, a leading research and policy organization committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights, illustrates the socio-economic status of abortion seekers. Data showing financial and economic impacts of being denied a wanted abortion come from the groundbreaking Turnaway Study conducted by Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH), a collaborative research group at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The Turnaway Study, using data from 2010 to 2016, is the first to provide a dataset that includes an appropriate control group, making it possible to rigorously compare outcomes for abortion seekers who receive a wanted abortion and those who are denied (turned away).
