CAPTURING THE MOMENT: Centuries of the Passover Haggadah
The Four Sons
The Torah (first five books of the Hebrew Bible) alludes to four types of children:
“One wise, one wicked, one simple, one who does not know how to ask.”
The duty of the father during the Seder is to tell the story of Exodus in a way that is suitable for each one. The subject of the four sons is a favorite for artists. Illustrations of these figures are present in almost all illustrated Haggadot.
