Description:
British bookbinder Gwladys Edwards trained at the Guild of Women-Binders during its last years. The Guild closed in 1904. Edwards continued binding until around 1916. This elaborate binding, completed for the Guild of Women-Binders, is richly and exuberantly designed and tooled by Edwards. She covers the background surrounding the stylized butterflies with gold-tooled solid dots. The motif is continued on the spine. She used the technique of leather onlay on the covers and richly applied gilt to the gauffered edges of the book.
