CC Jones-Heat Set Tissue Repair

Charles Colcock Jones Papers Volume L-2034 and 2036

1869-1870  (951 pages) Augusta, Georgia
1872-1874  (999 pages) Wall Street, New York

These Letter Press Copy Books are from the papers of Charles Colcock Jones, a lawyer, collector, Confederate soldier and historian from Savannah, GA. These volumes were full of many shattered brittle pages and a conservation treatment was necessary to salvage them. These 900 + page volumes were only a part of a series of similar volumes all in very fragile condition. The volume was unusable in this condition.

Treatment

Only the most damaged pages were treated. The worst pages were mended using heat set tissue and a hot iron.
