From Campus to Cockpit: Duke During World War II
Rose Bowl: Game Day, 1942
Game Day, January 1, 1942, Duke Stadium
Rose Bowl attendees weathered long lines and rain upon arrival at the Duke Stadium, huddling in ponchos and hats for the duration of the game. North Carolina Governor Joseph Melville Broughton braved the cold to show support for the game, making do with a blanket and scarf. Meanwhile Coach Wade and the Duke bench kept warm in their overcoats.
