Tobaccoland
Quitting & Prevention, 1960s–2000s
Currently, most public health campaigns and tobacco education initiatives focus on two goals: helping current users quit smoking and preventing new users from starting. Duke University’s upcoming smoking ban is the latest in a series of increasingly restrictive policies about smoking and tobacco use being implemented across the United States. Health officials and government officials have also developed educational anti-smoking campaigns targeting specific demographics they determine to be statistically at-risk to start smoking, such as African American youth and LGBTQ+ communities.
